Julia Novotny
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Julia received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies with a minor in Spanish from Marquette University. While at Marquette, Julia was introduced to Ignatian Spirituality and service learning. Encounters through service instilled in her a passion for social justice and a desire to pursue a career that would make a positive impact in the lives of others.
For three years following undergrad, Julia taught in a Montessori school a few blocks from Marquette’s campus. Eager to connect her passion for justice with her faith, Julia enrolled in the Master of Divinity Program at Boston College School of Theology and Ministry in 2016. While pursuing her degree, she held internships in high school teaching and campus ministry, hospital chaplaincy, and various faith based student formation programs at Boston College where she gained experience planning and facilitating retreats for undergrads.
Julia graduated in December 2020 and worked as a Contact Tracer at Partners In Health for the state of Massachusetts for the next six months. In Summer 2021, she moved to Ann Arbor for an opportunity to work in Campus Ministry at St. Mary Student Parish. Julia loves being outdoors, cooking for family and friends, exploring new places, and spending time with her husband, John, daughter, Frances, and cats, Sven and Pip. She loves being a part of St. Mary and is grateful to contribute to such a vibrant community!
