Earthworks Urban Farm Work Day
June 5 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
he Faith Doing Justice Ministry is headed to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen Earthworks Urban Farm in Detroit for a morning of service on Friday, June 5, from 9am to 12pm. The minimum age to participate is 7 years old. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Please review the volunteer information here prior to signing up. It contains specifics about the shift, including what to wear, what to bring, the working conditions, etc. We will be assisting with seasonal garden maintenance.
Following a morning of service, volunteers have the option to stick around and have lunch at the Capuchin’s On the Rise Bakery and Cafe, which offers training and employment to formerly incarcerated individuals and those who have completed a substance use disorder treatment program. If you wish to participate, please pre-order your lunch here. All lunches cost $13 and include a sandwhich (vegetarian and gluten free available), cookie, 8 ounce cup of soup, and a drink. Please pre-order your lunch by completing this form and submitting payment to St. Mary (link to payment in form). Lunch will be from 12-1pm. The address for On the Rise Bakery and Cafe is 1780 Mount Elliott St., Detroit, MI 48207
If you still haven’t had your fill exploring the work of the Capuchins, all are welcome to attend a tour of the Solanus Casey Center, located on the same campus, from 1-3pm. Participants will learn about the life and ministry of Blessed Solanus Casey. Please sign up using this separate sign up.
