DESCRIPTION:Meditations on the Life of Igino GiordaniAn Evening with Dr. William Calvo-Quirós\, American Studies\, UMich. \n\n\n\nIgino Giordani\, known as “Foco\,” was a distinguished Catholic intellectual\, writer\, and politician who dedicated his life to faith\, scholarship\, and service. A World War I veteran\, he authored over 200 works on Church history and helped modernize the Vatican Library. After World War II\, he served as a congressman and directed Fides\, a major Catholic journal that shaped Italy’s postwar political landscape. Most notably\, Giordani co-founded a global Catholic lay movement that influenced Vatican II’s vision for lay participation in the Church. In his later years\, he championed ecumenism\, interfaith dialogue\, peace\, and unity. \n\n\n\nForty-five years after his passing\, we are invited to reflect on Giordani’s example and what it teaches us about living our Catholic faith in today’s world. The minimum age to participate is 7 years old. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Please review the volunteer information here prior to signing up. It contains specifics about the shift\, including what to wear\, what to bring\, the working conditions\, etc. We will be assisting with seasonal garden maintenance. \n\n\n\nFollowing a morning of service\, volunteers have the option to stick around and have lunch at the Capuchin’s On the Rise Bakery and Cafe\, which offers training and employment to formerly incarcerated individuals and those who have completed a substance use disorder treatment program. If you wish to participate\, please pre-order your lunch here. All lunches cost $13 and include a sandwhich (vegetarian and gluten free available)\, cookie\, 8 ounce cup of soup\, and a drink.
